Obituary

Linda Irene Snell succumbed to non-alcohol related liver disease on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Linda will be remembered for her quick smile, spiked hair, proclivity for shopping, and love of family.

Linda was born in Harrisburg, PA to Lloyd Thomas Winter Sr (deceased) and Irene Marie Katofsky Winter (deceased). Linda was the apple of her father’s eye and she cherished his affection. Linda’s most unusual childhood pet was a duck named Donald, acquired after her mother jokingly ordered 50 Easter chicks and a duck from a door to door salesman. Donald used to walk Linda to school and wait for her arrival home.

Linda met her beloved husband H. Alan Snell, who predeceased her, at Elizabethtown College when they were both students there. She agreed to her first official date with Alan without remembering him from a prior encounter at a party they had both attended. Fortunately, her roommate located a yearbook and they looked him up. Linda quickly remembered the easy conversation she had with Alan and his stunning blue eyes. And, as they say, the rest is history.

Linda’s first job was with the telephone company. She, laughingly, would recall the terrifying rides she had to and from her job in Harrisburg. Her brother, Lloyd Thomas Winter Jr. (Tommy, also deceased) often drove her and he liked to scare her by racing over the bridges in his Shelby Cobra. She recalled how she would try to keep her well-coiffed hair in place, screaming at the top of her lungs at him and punching him in the arm to slow down.

Linda left her job at the telephone company to dedicate her time and attention to her growing family. Linda was incredibly proud of the home that she and Alan built on Asper Drive in White Rock Acres. Linda was well known by the neighborhood children for making the best iced tea and zucchini bread. She was quick to clean scraped knees but equally as quick to kick the kids back outside to enjoy the mountain playground.

After a softball injury sidelined Linda’s athletic pursuits, she took great enthusiasm in cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. This sweet and petite lady became a competitive beast if there was a win at steak. No one cheered louder or gave a more spirited high five than Linda.

Linda relished relaxing and unwinding at Lake Raystown. She loved that camping and boating kept the family close and led to many hours lounging on the water and just chatting about all of the big and small things. The only allowable discord happened while docking the boat, when inevitably someone would get yelled at.

Linda was a staunch supporter of animal advocacy organizations, and K9 Crazy Puppy Rescue in particular. Linda had a number of dogs through her life, including mutts, Irish Setters, Bichon Frise, and Golden Retrievers. She loved them all, but her first Irish Setter, Smokey, and one of her Golden Retrievers, Chloe, held a big part of her heart. Her beloved goldie, Katy, now lives with her daughter. Linda believed in the ability of animals to bring immense love and joy to humans.

Linda is survived by her son Craig Alan Snell of Boiling Springs, PA and his wife Kerry. Linda is also survived by her daughter Kimberly Lynn Snell-Zarcone of Camp Hill, PA and her husband Thomas. Linda was also known as Nana to her four grandchildren: Isabella Marie Snell Zarcone, Scarlett Reilly Snell Zarcone, Evelyn Mika Rose Snell, and Bowie Alan Snell. Linda’s sister-in-law Georgann Rhoads and best friends Barbara and Robert Pearce also survive her.

I was fortunate to have this kind, spiked hair lady stop me in the street in our retirement neighborhood late April 2016 while she was driving! I was walking my Golden Retriever, maybe she was more interested in meeting Alf than me but it was the start of a new friendship. Linda and I were new residents to the neighborhood. When Alan died, she asked my husband and I to sit in her home during the services since she knew we would take good care and love on Katie, an easy task to do!
We became movie and lunch buddies after that! I loved reading about her grandchildren’s endeavors on Facebook.
Linda, my friend, thanks for seeking me out and I’ll never forget your will to get better!
