In 1964, Chris graduated from William Penn Senior High School, York, PA. He earned an associate degree in agricultural administration from Penn State University in 1968, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Shippensburg University in 1971.
For thirty-five years Chris worked as a computer programmer and financial systems analyst at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot. Shortly after retirement he returned as a part-time government contractor for fourteen years. His colleagues considered him a relic in the computer world because he knew so many outdated languages and had worked on the elephantine computers of the 1960s. Throughout his career he received several awards including the Civilian Meritorious Award for System Development.
Chris logged over one million air miles minus the frequent flyer points when he had implementations at our naval bases in Hawaii, California, Florida, Washington, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Sicily, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Japan, Okinawa, and the Philippines. He marveled that a click of a mouse will do the same job today.
At age six-months Chris nearly died from spinal meningitis. As an adult he knew he had been living on borrowed time so he used it wisely. He thrived doing house projects, e.g. installing aluminum siding, gutting rooms, and finishing a two-story addition.
Chris’s memorial service will be on Saturday, February 1st, at Mt. Calvary Episcopal Church, 125 N. 25th St., Camp Hill, PA 17011, with visitation at 11:00 and service at noon followed by a luncheon at the church. The Reverend Dr. Gregory Welin will officiate.
